Our Very First Blog Post & Paradise on Earth
Welcome to the year 2020 and our first Cave B Estate Winery blog post! I was in 6th grade in 1979 when my parents first purchased several hundred acres of sagebrush and one alfalfa field to turn it into the hundred plus acres of Cave B-Familigia Vineyards, the Cave B Estate Winery, Stage B Amphitheater, the Cave B Ridge Condos, the Lakes at Cave B houses, our current neighbor the Cave B Inn & Spa Resort and our other neighbor the Gorge Amphitheater. At that time none of us had any idea that they would create so much on this remote and beautiful land they had just acquired. All I knew was that Mom & Dad had hauled us four kids, with a friend each, to plant grapes on our new land, far from any other wine grapes at the time and we were spending a lot of time throwing mud balls at one another and diving into ditches. It hardly ever rains here at our Quincy vineyard location but that weekend it did. As I bent down from our tractor plow to hold the grape roots in place and carefully set it in the newly plowed ground, my siblings marched alongside saying “plant”, “plant”, “plant” every few feet and friends walked behind pressing the dirt down with their feet to make sure the new vines could thrive. In 1979 the year 2020 felt like an impossible dream to reach, a sci-fi adventure. In my young imagination I thought we would be flying around in space vehicles and living on other planets, like in the movies, yet here I am in January 2020, firmly rooted in this place I so love, Cave B Estate Winery, feet in the vineyards, hands on the grapes. When I look around me though I see the tremendous growth over the years in the long vineyard rows, the Poplar trees lining our driveway, the mature Weeping Willow Trees swaying over the pond and the variety of buildings. I see that very much has changed indeed and although we are not in outer space we most certainly created our own little piece of paradise here on Earth, at least I would like to think so. I hope you have had a chance to come here in person, to walk through the vineyards, hike down to the river’s edge, sip some wine and watch the Red Tailed Hawks soar overhead. This place seeps into your soul and photos never do it justice. I want to hear your stories of this beautiful place, in person, in written form and in video. This is my goal for 2020 to capture all of your Cave B stories while at the same time telling ours.
